Sprint and T-Mobile: it may be time to merge


According to Bloomberg today, Sprint Nextel and DKE (parent of T-Mobile USA) have again discussed merging Sprint and T-Mobile USA to become more competitive with the two largest American providers, Verizon Wireless and AT&T. The stock market liked the sound of that and rose four and five percent for T-Mobile and Sprint respectively. This isn’t the first time the two have discussed merging, even though the combined company would still sit in third place in the US market. Verizon and AT&T boast around 100 million customers each, while a combined T-Mobile and Sprint would account for about 85 million.
